Before talking about treatment, we have to think about what is causing it. This is usually done during a visit to a doctor, getting an EKG done, often with some blood work and sometimes additional testing. Treatment options are dictated by the results of the work-up.
If pt. Is stable most go to ER. If this is not the first time, then most count tachycardia per minute. If over 150go to ER,if less and conscious, take a deep breath and hold as a pressure pump for 30seconds,take your pills, and go to ER. If tachycardia on and off and pt.stable most go to md. Appointment asap. Frequently used meds are diltiazem, metoprolol, carotid sinus manipulation, valsalva maneuver.
