What causes adults to develop a stutter?

I am a 41 year old male. I want to know what causes adults to develop a stutter?

If you were never a stutter prior to now, it could be related to medication side affect or a neurological condition. It is best to speak with your doctor about these side affects.
There are different medical conditions that can contribute to acquired stuttering. There's not just one cookie cutter answer for that.

While it is rare for adults to develop a stutter later in life, it is possible. This is usually the result of some form of trauma/traumatic event in their life or an injury to the nerves/musculature involved in speech.
