What causes excessive ear wax?

I am a 31 year old male. I want to know what causes excessive ear wax?

Nothing specific.
Some people just happen to produce more wax than others, and we don't really know why. Other people may have trouble with eczema or other skin conditions involving the ear canal. Also, using Q-tips or other instruments in the ear canal can pack wax in, making wax problems worse.

It is genetically determined. Some racial group produce more cerumen, others less.
Well, there's no one cause. Many times, if you produce a lot, it's just part of your body's biology. Some people perspire more than others and some produce more ear wax than others. On the flip side, excessive Q-tip use can push wax deeper into the canal. If this is repeated, it can cause an impaction, which is not necessarily due to excessive production, but to interfering with the ear canal's natural cleaning mechanism.
