What causes red eyes in adults?

I have red eyes and want to treat them. What causes red eyes in adults? Should I see a doctor?

The most common cause is dry eyes. Artificial tears will help.
Red eyes can be caused by any number of issues: dryness, allergy, infection, etc. when in doubt, schedule a visit with an optometrist right away
There are multiple reasons for redness in adult eyes - irritation, infection, hemorrhages in conjunctiva, inflammation, post eye surgery and trauma. The eyes are constantly exposed to environments and irritations, plus infectious agents, etc.
Could be dry eyes , allergies etc.
A complete ophthalmologic exam should be performed to determine the cause of your symptoms.
