The majority of patients are able to go back to eating a full normal diet. Occasionally, some patients may experience symptoms such as bloating or diarrhea after eating certain foods, especially foods that are high in fat content. If you experience these symptoms, they will resolve the majority of the time after a few weeks after surgery. But if they do not, there are medications that can be used to help with the symptoms.
I recommend avoiding fatty foods (fried foods, butter, cream, ranch dressing, and cheese) forat least 7 days after gallbladder removal.
No food restrictions.
After an uncomplicated laparoscopic cholecystectomy you have no dietary restrictions.
I recommend low fat foods after gallbladder removal as eating a meal high in fat can lead to diarrhea. Most patients can resume eating their normal diet after a week or so of low fat foods. Some patients have continued diarrhea with high fat meals and have to adjust their portions. There are also medications that can be added to help with persistent diarrhea after gallbladder surgery.
