Nothing really bad. You should wear wide shoes to avoid pressure on your bunion. Unless the pain becomes disabling do not consider surgery.
bunion is a mal alignment of the big toe joint, if untreated, there can be compensation and complications such as: hammertoes, arthritis, pain, dislocated joint, arch pain, heel pain, tendonitis, ligament damage. I recommend an evaluation with a podiatrist to talk about your options.
A bunion will progress if the mechanics that have lead to its development are not addressed. I recommend you make an appointment with a foot and ankle surgeon (podiatrist) to discuss the cause and treatment options
I only recommend surgical intervention for bunions on patients who are experiencing pain or other difficulties related to their bunions. Occasionally, people will have bunion surgery out of vanity, which is fine, but you need to realize that any type of surgery comes with potential complications. If your bunion does not hurt, you do not need to do anything. However, bunions may get bigger over time. A good way to try to slow the progression of your bunion deformity is to wear orthotics to balance the musculo-skeletal function of your feet.
