The most potent drugs are the class of drugs called PPI or proton pump inhibitors. They are not long term though. They should be used for only 6-8 week intervals. You need to make sure you don’t have a bacterial infection such as H. Pylori that needs to be treated with antibiotics as well as PPI.
Depends on the cause but most gastritis has no clear explanation and does not need specific treatment. Chronic gastritis does not cause symptoms, despite what most doctors will tell you. If H pylori bacteria is present, then treat that to get rid of gastritis.
