My friend was diagnosed with OCD. What is the best treatment for OCD?

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) can be treated with psychotherapy and medications. For some, psychotherapy is enough. For others, medications are enough. It is dependent on the individual. However, I genuinely believe that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is most helpful, as it involves helping individuals recognize behaviors that require adjusting while teaching or exposing them to coping skills that are useful for transforming the symptoms.
I hope this helps. If not, please feel free to reach out for more information. Take care.

The evidence-based treatment for OCD is ERP (exposure response prevention) which is best done with a licensed therapist who has had extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapies.
A good treatment for OCD would be similar to treating anxiety. Things that work for one person may not work for another. I recommend seeing a mental health professional for proper diagnosis and treatment recommendations. Erika
OCD is an anxiety disorder. Ive heard about positive results from a program called NOCD. I recommend searching for a therapist who uses NOCD or one who specializes in anxiety. Therapy - Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Exposure and Response Prevention - please find a therapist who specializes in OCD and anxiety for this treatment
Exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy, a type of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), is the gold-standard treatment for OCD.
You are a great friend for seeking information to help someone that is likely experiencing disruptions in their life from OCD. OCD is an anxiety-based disorder that manifests through compulsive behaviors. Some of the most effective, and evidence-based, treatments for OCD are behavioral therapies. These include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Finding a therapist that uses these models can help your friend manage the thoughts and behaviors that contribute to their compulsive behaviors.
And Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) sometimes accompanied by medication is the only known treatment that is effective in helping people gain control over OCD.
Cognitive Behavior Therapy(CBT) has been the most effective Treatment for OCD for quite some time. However, a more specific CBT called Exposure and Response Prevention has become more popular recently and has demonstrated strong evidence in it's effectiveness. However, a more general therapeutic approach to one's overall mental health can be equally important in minimizing the effects of OCD tendencies in the long run. OCD behaviors can many times be a means of bringing order to one's otherwise chaotic environment. Therefore, it is important to look at your friend's overall mental well being and not overly focus on the behaviors themselves.

The treatment that has shown to be the most effective for OCD is called Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).
