Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) greater than 60 or higher is the normal range. GRR lower than 60 may mean kidney disease. GFR 15 or lower may mean kidney failure. There are urine tests, Dipstick urine test, Urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR) which compares albumin to creatinine in your urine. Blood tests, Serum creatinine, glomerular filtration rate (GFR), Blood Urea Nitrogen, Blood test, Imaging, and others. Thank you.
The best test is: RENAL FUNCTION PANEL (RFP). But basic metabolic panel (BMP and comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP) will also give you kidney function numbers as well.
Here is why RFP is my favorite.
It gives you BUN (blood urea nitrogen) and serum creatinine. (so do BMP andCMP)
It gives you serum albumin, a measure of nutritional status (CMP does aswell but not BMP)
It gives you a serum phosphorus level. (NEITHER BMP nor CMP will give youthis.)
