Treatment for arthritis varies. Depends on the degree of pain. Also depends on the amount of bone changes that are associated with condition. Anti-inflammatory medication and physical therapy can be beneficial to help reduce discomfort. Sometimes steroid injections can be beneficial as well. On other occasions surgery to either remove bone spurs, bone fragments or other types procedures can be performed. Jonathan M. There are invasive and noninvasive means of treatment. such as physical therapy, ankle braces, injections, surgery, etc... I recommend that you see a foot doctor or orthopedics to find out the extent of your arthritis and then begin treatment that is right for you.
Ankle arthritis is not very common. Likely due to an old injury, gout, or rheumatoid related. Steroid injects can help temporarily, consider physical therapy to strengthen supporting structures. I would also try to find someone to inject prolotherapy in the local tissues.

Arthritis is treated conservatively with heat and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications. If the arthritis is severe, it is treated either with fusion of the joint or a total implant arthroplasty of the joint.
