The white cell count can be low, normal, elevated, or markedly elevated. Too many variables to make a general comment. The important variables are the nature / name of which white cells are elevated. Much too complicated for a simple answer.
Both acute and chronic leukemias cause the WBC to rise above normal (> 11,500).
The white blood cell counts of leukemia patients can vary greatly from low to high.
