Unfortunately food allergies are on the rise and much more common now than decades ago. We do not know why kids become allergic to foods, we do have a fairly good understanding of the process once it is initiated. The immune system develops an IgE antibody to the food protein and that antibody triggers allergic cells to release mediators responsible for the symptoms of an allergic reaction - itching, hives, swelling, wheezing, and trouble breathing. etc. I would suggest seeing your kid's allergist and monitoring the food allergy on a regular basis.
