What medicine can he take?

My husband was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism. He just started taking on the 3rd of November, Levothyroxine NA 50mcg daily. He has chills, mucus drainage, coughing, and a fever. Can he take a day or night flu relief? He took it without reading the labels. First, he has taken 3 doses (2 doses of the daytime and 1 dose of nighttime) the daytime has Acetaminophen 325mg, Dexotromethorphan HBr 10mg and Phenylephrine HCI 5mg. The nighttime has Acetaminophen 325mg, Chlorohenitamine maleate 2 mg, Dexotromethorphan HBr 10mg and Phenylephrine HCI 5mg. Last night he did not feel any better so he also took without reading the boxes (it was a one time thing) he thought he needed an extra boost so he took a packet of the nighttime flu relief in hot water with the following ingredients: Acetaminophen 650mg, Diphenhydramine HCI 25 mg, Phenylephrine HCI 10mg? He is not on any other medicines from the VA. He does take a multivitamin, extra vitamin D-3 25mg, (2) Quercetin 500mg, Elderberry with Zinc, Vitamin C, and an immune blend. My question is "Is he allowed to take anything for this flu?

Dear patient,

I do not like over-the-counter meds as they can have multiple side effects which may be additive to levothyroxine. I like Tamiflu for flu, nose drops for two to three days, and acetaminophen for aches and pain. He should consult his doctor for accurate diagnosis.
