Colon & Rectal Surgeon Questions Colon and Rectal Surgeon

What might be wrong with me?

About 3 or 4 times in the past 6 years I’ve had blood in my stool the morning after a night of drinking whiskey. I’m 50 years old on no medication and feel completely fine. What could be the problem?

It’s important not to ignore this problem and seek consultation with a specialist. Getting a colonoscopy is extremely important if you have never had one.
The bleeding could be from polyps, colon cancer, hemorrhoids, colitis AVMs - to name a few. Please see your gastroenterologist right away. You may need blood tests and a colonoscopy.

Most bleeding of this type is from hemorrhoids but you need a colonoscopy, especially if you are 50 yrs old and have never had one before.
It’s a strong possibility that the alcohol is resulting in probably internal hemorrhoids. But at the age of 50, multiple screening tests and evaluation‘s that need to be and should be done in order to ensure there is no cancer and prevent or initiate early treatment before any problems can and or will occur. Please see your primary care physician to you or your gastroenterologist for a colonoscopy. You’ll also need a PSAEKG chest x-ray if you’ve ever smoked any cigarettes abdominal MRI and MRA in order to look for AAA, quite a few things. I wish you well I hope it’s benign and thank you for asking me for my medical advice.
