It might help. If it is not, you need spinal decompression, laser treatment.
When you injure your back, there are different structures that contribute to back pain. There are muscles, discs, and joints that can contribute to pain. The physical therapist you choose should be well versed in identifying those structures and designing your program to treat those different structures. A therapist also educated in manual therapy can also be beneficial.
You need to see a good therapist who will teach you the exercises. Try to find one who specializes in spine
Just search lower back exercises or McKenzie lower back exercises or see a physical therapist.
If you think you might have a herniated disc, I would highly recommend seeking treatment from a Physical Therapist who is credentialed in McKenzie Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT). You can find a a local therapist who is credentialed at www.mckenzieinstituteusa.org.

This is evaluated by the physical therapist.
Herniated disc means that there is significant instability around the spine and to the local ligaments. Strengthening up these ligaments and the surrounding tissues/muscles is going to give you the best opportunity for pain relief and prevention of future injury. It is best to get a properly evaluated by a physical therapist to make sure you were doing the right exercises, at the correct time. There is no one size fits all list.
Physical therapy will not fix an injured disc, but PT can help to bring the disc back into place and strengthen your back muscles to help prevent further herniations.
