Several. The technique used depends on the patient, the size of the hernia, its position and other factors. I evaluate every patient and decide the best possible approach.

There are different types of abdominal hernias. Such as umbilical, incisional, inguinal, femoral, and epigastric,, All hernias need to be repaired to avoid incarceration or strangulation. An incarcerated hernia can not be pushed back. There is a danger of strangulation where the blood supply is cut off. If not reduced or repaired whatever is in the hernia contents will die and have dire consequences. Different hernias have different methods of repair.
There are multiple different kinds of abdominal hernias (inguinal, hiatal, incisional, and Spigelian just to name a few) and there are multiple different ways to fix them. There is no one size fits all hernia repair. Sometimes we can do it robotically, sometimes mesh is necessary, and sometimes an open repair is needed. You should see a surgeon for a consult and they should be able to answer which repair is the best for your particular type of hernia.
Hernia repair. The location of the hernia, size, and previous surgeries depends on the type of surgery offered. Options include open repair with a large incision or minimally invasive repair (laparoscopic or robotic-assisted) with several small incisions. Most hernia repairs are done with placement of mesh, but certain hernias are able to be fixed without it.
Normally laparoscopic with mesh.
