OB-GYN (Obstetrician-Gynecologist) | Gynecology Questions OB-GYN

Why am I spotting so much? Could I be pregnant? Or have an STI?

So I am currently on the birth control patch (XULANE). I skip my periods usually. I have spotting every now and then, it's usually a light pink/brown color and goes away in a couple of days but this time I had my period, and dark brown discharge has been nonstop for the past 2 weeks. It's like actual discharge, it's thick and not like a period whatsoever. I had unprotected sex about a month ago and I haven't taken a test yet but I'm scared it could be something else. There's no smell besides the usual 'blood' smell that comes with a period. But I get reoccurring BV a lot I had that at first which I usually get right after I get my period. I'm confused about what it could be? I don't have enough money to see a gynecologist, so I was hoping to get an answer here. Thanks!

You really do need to be evaluated to see why you are having discharge and bleeding, if you have an untreated infection, it can significantly affect your health and your future fertility. I’d recommend at least going to a local health department or Planned Parenthood clinic to see if you can be seen.
