Why am I still in pain?

I wasn't in a car accident but received a whiplash injury from two hard brakes. I was in severe pain. I used ice, warm packs, and Tylenol and steroids. I can take NSAIDS at this time. I felt improvement while on two rounds of steroids. Afterwards pain returned to a level 10. I had MRI and was sent to therapy. Even with the medication in my system I am in severe pain after therapy not sore. Why am I in pain will the therapist says I shouldn't be?

MRI notes: Mild uncovertebral hypertrophy
1. At C4-C5, C5-C6 and C6-C7 there are shallow broad-based central posterior disc protrusions measuring 2.5
mm AP with resultant mild effacement of the ventral thecal sac contributing to minimal central canal
stenosis.
2. Straightening of the normal cervical lordosis

It is not uncommon to have severe pain in the first few months after a neck injury--as you have multiple herniated discs with spinal cord effacement. I suggest seeing a PAIN SPECIALIST, SPINE SPECIALIST, and/or a PHYSICAL MEDICINE specialist. Treatment will take a while(probably months) and must include good PHYSICAL THERAPY, HEAT, STRETCHING/RANGE OF MOTION EXERCISES, and maybe SHORT TERM OPIATE PAIN MEDS if NSAIDS/MUSCLE RELAXERS dont help. And sometimes EPIDURAL STEROID INJECTIONS will help--but that is a decision made by a SPECIALIST.
