Ophthalmology Questions Ophthalmologist

Why are my eyes constantly red and swollen?

I am wondering if I could have a possible autoimmune disease. These symptoms are not similar to my allergy symptoms. Symptoms include constant eyelid redness, random swelling of the upper and lower eyelid, fatigue, random waves of feeling sick, insomnia. Before I could easily wake up from an alarm. Now, I have two alarms on max volume and can’t wake up in the morning.

You should go to your ophthalmologist for a complete examination to determine the cause of your problems.

It’s possible, you would need an eye exam to determine that. You should go when your eyes are irritated otherwise they may not be able to diagnose you.

You should make an appointment with your local eye care provider and also your Regular doctor and allergist. There are several things that need to be examined based on your description and labs/allergy testing should be done as well.
First of all, you should seek the advice of a medical professional to help with testing for possible autoimmune disease if you are concerned. As for your red and swollen eyes, it may be due to the side effects of your medications that you are currently taking to treat asthma and allergies. Asthmanex can cause inflammation of the sinuses (sinusitis), which in turn can cause eye pain and swelling. In addition, many allergy medications such as Zyrtec can cause dry eyes, which in turn can also cause red eyes. Albuterol can cause eyelid swelling and restlessness (which can cause insomnia). Finally, I would recommend you visit your healthcare professional to make sure that you are currently taking the appropriate medications and dosages for your medical conditions, which in turn may help you reduce or eliminate the eye symptoms that you are currently experiencing.
