Why do I have trouble breathing while pregnant?

I am a 28 year old female and I am 5 months pregnant. I have trouble breathing while pregnant. Is this normal during pregnancy?

1 Answer

Feeling of breathlessness is common among pregnant woman. The main cause is the pregnancy hormones that cause increase respiratory drive. Increase in abdominal girth also causes the feeling of difficulty breathing. Having said this, any trouble breathing should be seen by a physician to make sure that is not due to a medical problem such as asthma, hypertension, anemia, or a number of other causes of shortness of breath.
