This is not an easy answer. One would have to be aware of your foot problem and the orthosis used. But may be you do not need an orthotic. Proper orthotics should make your foot feel better. Frequently orthotics for the foot are over prescribed.
Many people have problems with orthotics. One common reason is to expect them to work rapidly. Your body needs to adjust to the orthotic so wearing them intermittently during the day over several weeks off and will improve their value. The other common reason is an appropriate fit for the orthotic. Finally there are other reasons for pain in the foot they are not related to the bony alignment such as a neuroma. I would address the situation with the physician who ordered the orthotic. Hope this helps have a great day
Could be any of a number of reasons. If they are new, then it takes 2-3 months to get used to them. They may not be custom or formed properly to your feet or you may have the wrong orthotic for the problem that you have. Are they "off the shelf"?? Although more expensive, the best results for orthotics are ones that are custom formed for your feet and for the proper diagnosis. See an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in foot problems, not a podiatrist.

If your feet hurt after wearing orthotics, the most likely reason is that they may not fit properly, and you should have the orthotist or podiatrist that made them check them and adjust them. Minor adjustments are often necessary, sometimes more than once, for proper fit. If they are off-the-shelf orthotics, consider custom made or orthotics or at least try a different pair.
