“Why do some people have speech delays and others don't?”
I am a 32 year old female. I wonder why do some people have speech delays and others don't?

There are a lot of reasons. Some have speech delays as a result of genetics, while others have middle ear infections, and yet other have a medical diagnosis that results in a speech delay.
Due to many reasons. Genetic, lack of stimulation in childhood, trauma, neurological, attention deficit, voice abuse. It all depends on the kind of speech problem you have and the specific reason for you. You may never know why you have a speech problem. Important thing is what can be done about it.

Many different medical reasons for that, sometimes it can be underexposure, sometimes it can be neurological, sometimes it can be a viral infection, etc. Too many potential etiologies to have one simple answer.

Hi,
Speech delays are seen in young children for various reasons, some are related to physical issues, i.e., cleft palate or other craniofacial anomalies affecting the nose and mouth, while others are due to social/emotional issues, such as neglect. You mention that you are 32, so I wonder if you meant speech disorders, such as a lisp, stuttering, etc. There are also speech and language issues that can arise from injury, such as a stroke, accident, etc. There is no rhyme or reason, and speech and language issues do not discriminate across any cultural, socioeconomic, or geographic boundaries.
I hope this answers your question. If you are in need of a Speech and Language Pathologist, please contact ASHA.org to locate a professional near you.
