“Why does hay fever severity fluctuate”
Some years my hay fever is unbearable, other years it's not a problem. Why is this?

Following these reports can help predict the need for antihistamines and nasal sprays (the latter can now can replace the need for antihistamine tablets) to treat hay fever. These medications can obviate the need for allergy shots which were used in the past!!!

It may have to do with the level of types of pollen in the air one year to the next. Check your area's pollen counts from year to year and see if you find any correlation with your symptoms
Hay fever is related to the amount of pollen in the air. It has to do with the location you are living and the pollen count in that area. That can fluctuate every year.
Hay fever triggers an immune response. Your body will respond to these allergens depending on the amount been encountered, frequency or length of exposure. New allergens will sometimes trigger an overwhelming response depending on the above exposure. The most likely explanation is a fluctuation in the types and levels of seasonal allergens you are exposed to from year to year. Environmental changes such as temperature and humidity fluctuations can change what plants and other allergens are most prevalent during any given season.
Different allergens are more prevalent in different years, so your exposure will change and your hay fever severity may change from year to year.
