“Why is my gum swollen around one tooth?”
I noticed swollen gums around one tooth. What could be the cause?

Hi,
You could possibly have something stuck in the gum like a popcorn kernel or peanut shell? Or your tooth could be abscessing and require an antibiotic and possibly a root canal? Or it can be inflammation around a wisdom tooth and the tissue that lies over top of it? It would be in your best interest to get an X-ray and see your dentist to determine truly the cause.
Thank you,

It could be many things. if it is just one tooth, perhaps that tooth has something under its gum tissue, or perhaps it has died and is abscessed. Begin with as vigorous a home care cycle [brush, use an irrigation devise with an antibacterial mouthwash] as is comfortable. If it doesn't resolve and especially if the swelling or discomfort increases, see a good dentist ASAP.
