Why is one side of the body weak?

My son is 4 years old and since he was born, he was diagnosed with torticollis. He was treated by physical therapists. At the age of 8 months, we realized that it is actually all his left side that is weak. So we took a brain MRI and that seemed to be ok. So far he goes to hydrotherapy, physical therapists, and more therapists. Should we try to understand what is the cause of the weak side? Is there a medical course that is important for us to know? Why does his body act like that? Should we just treat what we see, step by step as he grows?

Without reviewing the specifics of the case, I am unable to give concrete answers to what is going on. I can only speculate. With this said, it appears you have him pointed in the right direction. I would only recommend he be treated by a board certified Pediatric Physical Therapist as they have many more tools with which to work. I recommend the hydrotherapies and multidisciplinary approach as this has been shown to be the best practice.
Best of luck to you and your son.
