Wound on forehead

Hello,

I am concerned about this wound that I acquired while tripping and hitting my head on a carpeted staircase. This happened 3 days ago. I am wondering if this wound will scar and how long it should take to heal. Also what treatments can I use at home to help facilitate healing, Thank you.

It looks like you have a “rug burn” and that you are putting some type of ointment on it. You are doing the right thing. I prefer Vaseline and keeping it out of the sun. It should be healed in 2 weeks but the pigmentation can last for months if you are darker skinned.

For a forehead wound, clean it gently, apply an antibiotic ointment, and keep it covered. Healing takes 7-10 days, but full recovery may take a few weeks. Avoid picking the scab to reduce scarring. If signs of infection appear, or it’s not healing, see a dermatologist.
