Physiatrist (Physical Medicine) Questions Back Pain

After my c-section my back is extremely stiff. What should I do?

I underwent a c-section 20 days ago and now my back feels very stiff and sore. When I sit to feed my baby it is extremely painful especially at the lower back. What should I do?

Core exercises, flexibility exercise, etc. See a local physical therapist who will teach you proper exercises to help with your back pain.
Follow-up with your OB-GYN office.
As a previous midwife, I love your question. This is actually not uncommon. It could have been when you were actually on the delivery table that your back was stretched somewhat or the way you are sitting to feed the baby. Usually, it’s a muscular strain. Stretching before and after feeding the baby as well as a pillow on the small of your back. If this gets worse, then you must see a physiotherapist or physiatrist for assessment.

Wishing you well.
Congrats on the new baby! But boy! That’s a tough one! Typically, stretching can help in something like this, but since you’ve had a c-section, your Ob may not want you to do that. I would consult your Ob for recommendations - over-the-counter meds are okay if you’re breast feeding, etc. - and when you’re allowed to do some gentle stretching.
You need to see a doctor and physical therapist for her back pain. Many women develop back pain due to SI joint dysfunction and ligament issues.
