Can obesity cause a mental health problem?

I'm a 50 year old obese female. As I'm getting older, I've been starting to feel depressed and rarely go out. Is obesity causing these mental health problems?

Definitely, being obese makes some people to feel that they are not attractive causing them to be depressed. The patients can get on anti-depression medication while trying to lose weight as well as check any medical reasons for putting on weight.
Obesity with the symptoms you describe is a sign of an endocrine problem. Please make an appointment to a doctor right away.
As we get older we don’t have as much energy and that can cause weight gain which in turn can cause depression. If you walk and exercise it releases endorphins which are the feel good hormones
Well, I can definitely tell you that obesity itself does not cause mental health issues, HOWEVER, there are many possibilities to correlate the two. People can become depressed about their bodies, their inability to use their bodies as they had in the past or even compared to others, & there are problems that can lead to obesity and mental illness like hypothyroidism. I have no idea about you or the issues surrounding your weight issues, but am certain that it all can be evaluated at a physician's office.
Hopefully you will seek care for yourself.
