I am a 26 year old pregnant woman and I have sciatic pain. Can a chiropractor help with sciatic nerve pain during pregnancy?

During pregnancy a lot of changes go on in the body. The pelvis is affected the most. A chiropractor can evaluate the spine and pelvis to properly align you and reduce the sciatic pain.
Chiropractor is the best doctor to see for sciatica during pregnancy. Your ligaments become lax/looser than they need to be to accommodate the growing fetus. There are a lot more opportunities for joints in the lower back and the SI joints to become misaligned and aggravate local nerves. Muscles in the lower back and the pelvis become very tight due to postural
changes, as well as because they compensate for the laxity in the ligaments. The sciatic nerve in this case may be affected at the piriformis, or any other muscle it passes through.

A chiropractor can help with sciatic nerve pain during pregnancy. A chiropractic adjustment can help relieve some of that tension that builds up in the low back during pregnancy. He/she can also teach you effective exercises and stretches to further help with sciatic pain.
I have helped several pregnant patients and some of them with sciatica. Chiropractic is the best solution for a healthier pregnancy and speedier delivery. There are many medical options that are not available to a pregnant women while she is carrying a baby. Fortunately, chiropractic is safe, will not harm the baby and has been proven to be effective.

Absolutely. First, the physician needs to determine the cause of the sciatica. Usually, there is irritation to the nerve somewhere between the spine and the gluteal region. Once the area of impingement is determined, appropriate treatment may be provided. Manipulation is appropriate when pregnant in most cases.

In many cases, I have seen resolution of sciatic pain of pregnant and non-pregnant patients with chiropractic care. Of course, each case is unique, needing a evaluation and testing before making a decision on the proper treatment. I suggest talking to a chiropractor about what can be done for you sooner rather than later.
