yes
It can but also depends, a lot of excess weight could potentially cause pain. I like to say whatever your body weight is you take 2.5 times that and that is what is going through your ankles and feet and if it is a lot can always talk to someone about a healthy diet and exercise routine. I promote being healthy for the feet and ankles because they do take a lot of stress and strain daily.
Yes
Yes all physical stresses through your joints that are weight bearing will lead to increased pain eventually. This could be from arthritic conditions, most likely, but many other issues such as tendonitis or swelling.
Yes it can contribute some, but usually it is due to a biomechanical issue that can be easily treated. This will progress if left untreated.
There are multiple conservative options that work very well. Please, make an appointment with me in my Chandler office (480) 269-7130 and I will go over all of your options. Depending on Xrays (if needed) that I can take at my office and the clinical exam, I am able to diagnose and recommend different treatment options. I recommend you have this checked as soon as you can, especially since I can usually treat this without surgery very well in just one visit with me. My office is located on Dobson road, just north of Chandler Regional Hospital. Advanced Foot & Ankle Specialists of Arizona. Feel free to ask to be seen by me specifically and I will get you in the same day or latest the next day. I take all insurances, please do not go off of the insurance list on this website as it is not updated yet. Mention that I have talked to you on the internet. I can also do the entire visit with you over the phone or video call as well, which most insurances cover, even if you are out of state and my staff can verify this for you when you schedule. Thank you and have a good evening.
It can contribute to pain, but not the initial cause.
There are many reasons for ankle pain including arthritis, trauma, gait instability, yes being overweight can contribute to this
Yes, all weight-bearing joints are adversely affected by obesity. Spine hips knees and ankles. Obesity causes even worse health damage to the heart, kidneys, diabetes, etc. Very easy to lose weight save money and time by less food and spend less time eating. Fad diets do not work or are short-term. Do not attempt to increase exercise to lose weight as it may injure weight-bearing joints. Eat less calories than you burn and you will lose weight. Easy to find these numbers online.
It may be an aggravating factor but not likely the cause of your problem.
Hello,

Being overweight can contribute to foot/ankle pain/conditions. Other conditions can cause ankle pain though. You should see a foot and ankle specialist to be diagnosed and treated.

Yes being overweight can cause excess stress on the ankle, creating more strain on the joint and the surrounding ligaments and tendons. Weight alone is not always a reason to have ankle pain.

Remember that your feet have to carry everything above them, so the more weight above, the more they have to carry. Yes, being overweight can cause to greater lower extremity strain, fatigue, and pain.
Yes. Use a BMI calculator to determine your BMI.
Yes. Being overweight causes a great deal of stress to the joints, tendons, bones and ligaments. Being overweight also causes a wider stance of gait and weight bearing to accommodate a different center of gravity. This also may cause flat feet, knee and ankle pain, hip pain and low back pain.
Being overweight will not cause ankle pain, but it can make it worse. I recommend you be evaluated by a foot and ankle surgeon (podiatrist) to determine the cause of the pain and the appropriate treatment
