I have seen Plantar fasciitis resolve on its own. Usually it requires treatment. It rarely requires surgery.

Wrong orthotics?
Hard to answer your question. My first thoughts are you should go back to normal. It is very unlikely that Orthotics would cause permanent damage.

Walking boot can be much more comfortable than a cast. Most of the time they work the same.
