“Can benign tumors come back?”
I had surgery on a benign tumor that was found underneath my armpit. However, now I feel a lump in the same area, and it has a very similar texture to the tumor I just removed. Is it possible for tumors to come back after being removed?

Hello,
It is difficult to answer the question without knowing the exact etiology of this benign lesion. Cysts can sometimes return. Fibroadenomas can also sometimes recur although not generally in the same area. If you just recently had surgery, then you may be feeling some scar tissue that forms in the cavity. However, you should see your surgeon if there is any question of a new mass.

It's possible but unlikely depending on the tumor and whether it was completely removed. You should go back to your surgeon to have him examine you
In short, benign tumors can grow back. One of the most common benign tumors is called a lipoma (an abnormal growth of fat). These commonly recur after they are removed. Just because they recur does not mean it is cancer though!
If you just had a tumor removed and you still feel a lump, this is most likely a fluid collection (or seroma). This should decrease over the next few weeks. If it does not go away, a simple Ultrasound can be used to evaluate it.
