Betel leaves can cause oral cancer. Maybe switch to Tums?
Hi,

Betal nuts are shown to be a cause for oral cancer. In India, many individuals eat Paan. An ingredient in this is betal nut and is directly shown to cause oral cancer. However, there are many different recipes available with using this ingredient (sweet paan, etc.).
Hope this helps.
From all that I have read, Betel leaves alone appear to have many very positive effects. It's when it's combined (quid) that there appears to be a potential increase in cancer, but the studies I have seen are on animals, not humans.
