Thrombophilia is a condition where there is an increased probability of blood clots forming in the body. With a child or adult, blood clots that form in other parts of the body can travel to the lungs and cause blood clots there, known as pulmonary emboli, which may decrease the lungs' ability to transfer oxygen to the body.
