Dental Hygienist Questions Teeth Whitening

Can tooth whitening treatments ruin tooth enamel?

For the past 5 years, I get my teeth whitened twice a year. Is this too frequent? Do you think it could ruin my tooth enamel?

Not usually, depending on the solution. Some teeth are more sensitive and bleach solution can be mild or up to 24%.
Depending on what you are using and how often you are using it. The problem if you are using a product that’s over the counter or web site purchased is there is no guidance. See your dentist and discuss what you are doing.
It is okay twice a year. Keep up with your two a year.
Do not know why you would need to do this 10 times in 5 years. Depending on the product, it could hurt the enamel.
It depends on the material being used and by whom. If it is done under the supervision of your general dentist, then you should be fine. Mail order products can be unregulated.
Twice a year should be fine as long as you get your teeth cleaned at least twice a year. The only thing to watch for is sensitive teeth.

Not usually but it can affect the nerve or possibly the root as well.
No.
Professional whitening will not harm teeth. This is whitening done through a dental office. On the contrary, studies have show that some over the counter whitening treatments have irreversibly ruined enamel on teeth.
