Cardiologist Questions Irregular Heartbeat

Can you die from an irregular heartbeat?

I'm 50 years old and a woman. I've noticed that my heartbeat is irregular sometimes, but I don't think it's serious. My son thinks differently and told me that I can die from it. Is this true?

Need to see a Cardiologist
Some cardiac arrhythmias or irregular heartbeat can be serious. Ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fabulation can be associated with sudden cardiac death. On the other hand occasional PACs or PVCs are not that uncommon. They are mainly benign.

I would recommend you see a cardiologist and get a heart monitor. As well as an echocardiogram.
Almost never. Atrial fibrillation can cause clots and needs anticoagulants, but most other rhythm irregularities are not fatal.

Depending on what the nature of the irregular rhythm (arrhythmia; dysrhytjmia) is it can be quite serious. It might cause a stroke if it is atrial fibrillation or worse. If it reflects some more serious underlying heart disease it might result in death. You need to see a cardiologist and get evaluated. Hopefully it is benign but we don’t know that yet.
