Some surgeons remove what are called the buccal fat pads. This is usually done from an incision inside the mouth. This will reduce the fullness of the cheek area. Just be aware that when we get older, we lose much of this fat and the fat of our face in general, which contributes to looking older. At this stage, many people seek to have fat injected into the face and cheek area.
Depending on the location of the fat in your cheeks, it can be reduced by either micro liposuction or buccal fat pad removal. Either one can be performed in the office under local anesthesia.
Good luck.
Fat can be removed from cheeks in two ways. It can be removed if the fat is similar to that of a baby, by removing the pocket from inside the mouth. Alternatively, the fat can be removed by detailed liposuction.
The short answer is yes. There is a procedure called buccal fat reduction that can decrease the fat over your cheeks. This is usually done through a small incision inside your mouth. However, this can only address the fat over your lower cheek basically around the mouth. To address extra fat or tissue over the rest of your cheeks a facelift procedure is usually needed. Through a facelift incision we can remove extra fat, re-suspend the muscles and remove extra skin. This leads to an over all great improvement of the cheek area.
Of course, but this is rarely indicated. If you are overweight, the solution is not fat removal but weight loss. Some people have a fat pad in the middle of the cheek removed to make their face look thinner. I think that this is a bad idea more often than not. One of the inevitable accompaniments of aging, unless you are overweight, is loss of fat in the face, making you look gaunt. It is not a good look. More people are actually putting fat into the face these days than taking it out.
I would advise you to not do this. The facial nerve branches that move your facial muscles are very much at risk. If they are damaged, the face has a paralysis. Losing body weight will
also lose weight in the face.
Yes, fat can be removed from the cheeks. There are various modalities that can work to remove fat from specific areas such as Kybella injections, micro-liposuction, various heat based technologies (radiofrequency, Microneedling with RF, Ultherapy, etc.) please see a board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist to discuss your concerns.
Thank you for your question. Yes in general fat can be removed from your cheek. This should be done very carefully because volume loss from the face can be a sign of aging. Most commonly if the mid lower face has too much fullness and roundness the buccal fat pad is removed. Good luck.
Yes, that can be performed. The important thing to consider are the natural changes to the face as we all age.
