Can you have a colonoscopy without sedation?

My friend had a colonoscopy without sedation, and I thought that it was a must. Can you have a colonoscopy without sedation?

You could, but it would be very uncomfortable and may make the technical part of the procedure very difficult to see the inside of the bowel or move the camera if your muscles are contracting.
The procedure is probably too uncomfortable to do without any sedation. It all depends on what is your discomfort tolerance!

Some people can. Some can't. Colonoscopy can be uncomfortable. Different people have different pain thresholds as well as different colon anatomy. Some anatomical layouts are more difficult than others. And different medical issues...
Best option is to have anesthesiologist there monitoring vital signs. Can then give sedation if necessary, for whatever reason.
Yes, you can, but it is not recommended because of the discomfort to the patient. No sedation also makes it harder for the gastroenterologist to do a thorough exam and biopsies if necessary.
Yes, but it's more difficult for you and the GI doc!

Yes you definitely can however I suggest you still consent to anesthesia in case your gastroenterologist is having a difficult time navigating the colonoscope around, making you very uncomfortable.
I would not do it if there is no sedation involve. It is painful and uncomfortable.
