“Can you remove tartar yourself?”
I am a 28 year old female. I wonder if I can remove tartar myself?

You can, but it is difficult to do in a safe and effective way. You can cause damage to the hard and soft tissues, as well as your restorations. Moreover, unless you have an autoclave, you would be using an unsterilized instrument. Like cleaning your gutters, some things are best left to professionals.
Hello,
In answer to your question, NO. You and I cannot remove tarter (calculus) at home by ourselves. It takes a trained professional such as a dental hygienist, using ultrasonic and hand instruments to remove tarter. My suggestion: make an appointment to have your tarter and stain removed - aka "cleaning."
Hope this helps.

It is very difficult to remove tartar on your own teeth. Even though there are tools on the market similar to what a hygienist uses, a true understanding of dental anatomy and oral biology is very important to do it properly and completely. It is very easy to harm your mouth if it isn't done properly.

That generally requires sharp instruments under your gum tissue, so not advised. But there are patients that try.
It is possible if you have a dental scaler, however, it is somewhat difficult to do in the mirror and you can injure yourself. Also, you likely will leave tartar behind, so it is still a good idea to have your teeth professionally cleaned occasionally.
