Yes, 2-5% chance.
There are always a chance of infection if you do not do what you are told to take care of the area where the surgery was done. If you do then you should not have any trouble

The chances of getting a surgical site infection in an elective Bariatric surgery are exceptionally low. Most surgeons will see their patients back in a week post op and will look at the incisions. If need be they can be taken care of in the office easily. Hope it helps to put your mind at ease.
If the surgery is done laparoscopic, the chances to get a wound infection are low.
Congratulations on taking big step to restore your health. One of theist common complications after any operation is a wound infection, the stitches themselves do not get infected. Having said that, a planned operation, like yours, has less than 2 % chance of infection. Proper hygiene, following your surgeon's instructions, maintaining adequate blood sugar, avoiding smoking, are important steps to minimize the risk of infection. GoodLuck!
Wound infection is a risk with every type of surgery. Measures by the doctor will be taken during and after surgery for you to avoid such a risk.
You need to follow the instructions and if you observe any pain redness or swelling you should go to your doctor and take the medication that will be advised accordingly.
The rate of surgical site infections fortunately is very low if you take good care of your stitches. After surgery, just have a daily bath, wash your wound, dry it well and that is all. After 48 hours of your surgery, it is optional to cover it or not, but your surgeon could give more information about this. Good luck with your surgery.
There is always a small chance of a wound infection after bariatric surgery. The medical literature suggests that the rate is a little <1% for a sleeve gastrectomy and about 1.5% for a gastric bypass. Treatment typically includes removing sutures and allowing the wound to drain as well as oral antibiotics.
