Recommendation by ADA (American Diabetes Association) is yearly eye exam with an Ophthalmologist (MD) not an Optometrist, unless you have diagnosed eye problems from diabetes (retinopathy), then you would need to be seen more frequently at the instruction of the Ophthalmologist.
Yearly, if you have diabetic eye disease more often.
Patients with Diabetes should have an annual dilated eye exam to evaluate for potential effects of Diabetes
Type I (one) diabetics should get their eyes examined for retinopathy after five year from diagnosis and annually thereafter. Type II (two) diabetics need to have an eye exam soon after diagnosis on annually after that.
Should have a dilated eye exam annually
Yearly
I would annually
Once a year
Once a year if you don’t already have retinopathy! If you do have diabetic retinopathy already, you should be seen more often. Your eye physician will tell you how often you need to be seen.
People with diabetes should have an ophthalmologist check their eyes at least once a year....and more often if there are any diabetic related or other concerns.
Once a year unless there are findings, then more often based on what is seen. Should get eye exam at diagnosis for type 2 diabetes.

If you have diabetes you should have your eyes checked yearly. If you are found to have any signs of diabetic retinopathy you may need to be seen more often. Depending on the findings you may even need immediate treatment.
All patients with diabetes need at least annual mandatory eye exam check, due to the possible complications of diabetes in the retina, including blindness.
Eye checks are very important in people with diabetes. If you have no eye problems at present and your diabetes is well controlled then an eye check once a year is recommended. If any diabetes problems or problems of the eye unrelated to diabetes then more frequent eye checks are needed. Follow the advise of your eye doctor in this regard. Above all keep your diabetes in good control as this will help prevent diabetic problems of the eye. I have had Type 1 diabetes for 26 years, along with hypertension for 50 years, but have no diabetic changes in my eyes. So it can be done though it is not easy. So keep the diabetes in control and get an eye check at least every year.
