Dentist Questions Cavities

Do cavities get worse if untreated?

I'm 34 years old and I feel like I have two cavities in my mouth. Do cavities get worse if left untreated?

Yes. Cavities get worse if untreated. Over time the bacteria will spread going deeper and deeper into the tooth. When the bacteria reach the nerve of the tooth it is no longer able to be fixed with a filling but will now need a root canal and crown. If the bacteria is not removed it can cause an infection under the tooth causing a great deal of pain and facial swelling.
Yes sometimes very quickly, sometimes very slowly. Best to have it checked regularly.
