“Do I need to go to a prosthodontist to have a bridge?”
I need to have bridges installed to replace a few missing teeth at the bottom of my mouth. Do I need to go to a prosthodontist for treatment?

A prosthodontist is a dentist who has had advanced training replacing missing teeth. Usually a prosthodontist takes a residency at a dental school that has an advanced program. A prosthodontist may have taken a series of tests and submitted specific projects to demonstrate his/her ability to design, fabricate and insert appliances to restore missing teeth. There are other dentists who have expanded their knowledge and have acquired skills to replace missing teeth. You have a choice to decide. You should consult with at least two or more dentists who specialize in replacing missing teeth. You will be given the professional opinion and design that each dentist believes will serve you best. You will be given the fee each specialist will charge. The choice will be up to you.
No. Most general dentists are comfortable doing simple bridge work. If you are concerned, just ask the dentist. I’m sure he or she will tell you if it’s something that is beyond the scope of their training.
