“Do teething babies scream?”
My baby is teething and screams all day long. Do teething babies scream?

Teething can be painful, although "screaming" may not be typical. "Fussy" and "cranky" are more common words used to express an infant's discomfort. The erupting tooth hurts the most just prior to breaking through the surface of the gum, so the reason for the infant's fussiness and crying may not be immediately apparent. Typical symptoms include: fever, unwillingness to eat solids, diarrhea, diaper rash, pulling at the ears, fussiness, poor sleeping. Teething is often mistaken for an ear infection as the symptoms are quite similar -- only inspection of the ear drum by your physician can tell the difference

Babies go through various developmental phases and are louder and more active at various times. Parents often attribute teething as the cause of crying, fever, restlessness, irritability, and many other maladies. It has not been my experience with patients nor my own children that it is the case. Have your pediatrician check your baby for an ear infection or illness.
