Does an MRI show nerve damage?

I am a 38 year old female. I want to know if an MRI shows nerve damage?

MRI only shows anatomical problem and pathology. For better evaluation, might need a complete neurology exam and nerve study and electromyogram.
Yes MRI can show nerve damage, as well as EMG/nerve conduction study.
There are some newer technologies such as MR neurography that can assist with better evaluation of the condition of the nerve, i.e., “nerve damage,” however, the answer to that question is best answered by your treating physician based on your clinical presentation and overall prognosis.
It can. Please consult with a neurologist.
Typically an MRI will show whether a nerve is being compressed. The nerve can be compressed but that doesn’t mean it is necessarily inflamed and symptomatic. Conversely a nerve may be inflamed/irritated but not be compressed as in a stretch injury.
While a routine MRI may occasionally show some non-specific nerve damage. A formal spine or peripheral nerve MRI would be best. An engineer/ncs would also be very useful, but this is not an MRI test.
