“Does an overbite get worse with age?”
I am a 26 year old female with an overbite. I want to know if an overbite gets worse with age?

The answer is YES, overbites DO have a tendency to deepen with time. A lot of that depends on the type of occlusion/malocclusion present.
As a rule, it's difficult to know whether your particular bite will change over time because there are multiple factors involved in what drives the worsening (or not) of your bite. My guess is that you're talking about the horizontal mismatch between your upper and lower teeth (which is called overjet), not the vertical depth of your bite (which is called overbite). Either way, your bite may appear to worsen over time because crowding (misaligned teeth) tends to allow teeth to become more crowded/overlapped over time. This isn't your imagination, because malocclusions (mismatched bites) do tend to worsen over time, so correcting it sooner than later is always good if you're able to have it corrected orthodontically.
Hope this helps.

The word overbite can be confusing - do you mean a horizontal difference between upper and lower front teeth or a vertical overlap with the upper front teeth covering over the lower front teeth. From age 26 on changes will be slow but both problems are unstable and will change over time. Occasionally an adult with a large horizontal overbite will be reduced wearing an oral appliance for sleep apnea because of adaptation, but that would also be a slow process and not an acceptable orthodontic solution. It seems from your question that you are interested in learning how your overbite can be improved with proper treatment.
Hello,
Teeth do tend to shift throughout our lifetime. Overbite and overjet are two things that are common and generally considered a good thing in a moderate amount. Overbite refers to how much your top teeth cover your lower teeth (do your top teeth go all the way down and touch your lower gums when you bite down). Overjet refers to how far your top teeth stick out in front of your lower teeth. Generally speaking, overjet changes throughout our life as our teeth like to shift forward, but overbite does not change much as this would mean there was something wrong with the height of your teeth.
Hope this helps.
