OB-GYN (Obstetrician-Gynecologist) Questions Fibroids

Do fibroids grow back after surgery?

My daughter has been diagnosed with fibroids and the doctor says it requires surgery. However, are there chances that it could grow back after?

Fibroids can always recur in a different area. Eating less meat and carbohydrates and sugar may help prevent recurrence. Eating more fruits and vegetables is best. Likewise, if a person is markedly overweight, that can cause fibroids to grow.
Yes fibroids may recur. Yes if the treatment is removal of the fibroid tumors- called myomectomy with retention of the uterus, yes there is a chance new fibroids may regrow.
Fibroids almost always grow back, but may not grow in the same place and so may not cause symptoms. Fibroids are so common that a finding of an asymptotic fibroid on an annual exam should not lead to an automatic recommendation for surgery.
Yes, if only a myomectomy is done. But no if a hysterectomy is done.
Yes. Fibroid is decided in the women genes. No one can change this.
No, what happens is women who have fibroids usually have small fibroids in the muscle. So, when you remove the larger fibroids, the blood supply now starts feeding the small fibroids and they grow bigger.

YES, they usually come back after years. There is usually a surgery recommended to patients that want to preserve fertility, otherwise removing the uterus will be a more definitive treatment without the possibility of recurrence.
They usually do not if they are completely excused at that location. They can, however, firm in a different location in the future.

Yes, they could grow back over a few years. Surgery is indicated if she has bleeding, pain, discomfort, trying to get pregnant..

Best of luck!
Take care!
