“Can fibroids recur after a surgery?”
My daughter has been diagnosed with fibroids and we are planning to get a surgery done to remove them. I want to know can this problem recur even after the surgery?

Fibroids removed will never recur. However, if you still have a uterus you will always have the possibility of recurrence. Do know that just because you HAVE fibroids, you don't need to have them removed except for symptoms.
The answer is yes. Some studies show that up to 30% of fibroids reoccur after surgery. The best plan is to have the fibroids removed around the time of desired pregnancy. This way if they reoccur, assuming you have had all the children you desire, you can move towards a more definitive treatment without fear of reaccumulation of fibroids or consequences of pregnancy with fibroids.
Majority of surgical procedures performed to remove uterine fibroids either Laparoscopic, robotic or open procedures known as MYOMECTOMY are able to address this condition. Notwithstanding, there could be occult fibroid that may not be seen during the procedure, or a completely new growth from denovo. Much as the cause of fibroid is unknown so its recurrence remain a mystery. But majority of cases the procedure treats the condition with good outcome.
Yes, fibroids do grow back over a period of time, a few years. Surgery is done to help with pain, bleeding, to help get pregnant in the future, etc. Please discuss further with your OBGyn.
