Pediatrician Questions Wheezing

My 9 year old son wheezes a lot and requires frequent nebulizer treatment. Will this impact his health in the long run?

My son is 9 years old and since he was 5, he's had a problem with wheezing. We have to often give him nebulizerr treatment. Will frequent treatment have an impact on his health in the long run?

If he has to use the nebulizer a lot he needs a daily controller like an inhaled steroid or singulair. If you use the nebulizer repeatedly it can give you less receptors on the lungs for albuterol and make it not work as well when you need it. If his asthma is not controlled there can be thickening of the blood vessels in the lungs and cause him to need oxygen when he is old or have decreased exercise tolerance.
Frequent albuterol treatments won't affect his health negatively, but it probably means that his asthma is not well controlled. Perhaps he should be seen and placed on another asthma treatment plan. Thanks.

Studies have shown there is no long-term impact on health for frequent neutralization.
