Pulmonologist Questions Respiratory infection

Can honey cause respiratory infections?

When my brother and I were little, my mom avoided giving us honey out of fear of it causing a respiratory infection. Is there anything that supports this belief?

Children under the age of 1 should not have honey because of the risk of getting infantile botulism, a rare, but serious and life threatening disease that causes paralysis. This does not seem to be a problem for older children and adults.
